My son, do not forget my teaching,
But let your heart keep my commandments;
For length of days and years of life [worth living]
And tranquility and prosperity [the wholeness of life’s blessings] they will add to you.
Do not let mercy and kindness and truth leave you [instead let these qualities define you];
Bind them [securely] around your neck,
Write them on the tablet of your heart. And do not rely on your own insight or understanding.
In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him,
And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way]. (Proverbs 3:1-6) For God alone my soul waits in silence and quietly submits to Him,
For my hope is from Him.
He only is my rock and my salvation;
My fortress and my defense, I will not be shaken or discouraged.
On God my salvation and my glory rest;
He is my rock of [unyielding] strength, my refuge is in God.
Trust [confidently] in Him at all times, O people;
Pour out your heart before Him.
God is a refuge for us. Selah (Psalm 62:5-8)
You will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You in both inclination and character], Because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation].
Trust [confidently] in the LORD forever [He is your fortress, your shield, your banner], For the LORD GOD is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages]. (Isaiah 26:3-4) Blessed [with spiritual security] is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the LORD And whose hope and confident expectation is the LORD. For he will be [nourished] like a tree planted by the waters, That spreads out its roots by the river; And will not fear the heat when it comes; But its leaves will be green and moist. And it will not be anxious and concerned in a year of drought Nor stop bearing fruit. (Jeremiah 17:7-8)
And he will be like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season; Its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers [and comes to maturity].
The wicked [those who live in disobedience to God’s law] are not so, But they are like the chaff [worthless and without substance] which the wind blows away. (Psalm 1:3-4)
Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but the corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. (Matthew 7:17-18)
For there is no good tree which produces bad fruit, nor, on the other hand, a bad tree which produces good fruit
For each tree is known and identified by its own fruit; Every tree is known by the fruit it bears.
The [intrinsically] good man produces what is good and honorable and moral out of the good treasure [stored] in his heart; and the [intrinsically] evil man produces what is wicked and depraved out of the evil [in his heart]; for his mouth speaks from the overflow of his heart. (Luke 6:43-45)
For the fruit [the effect, the result] of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth. (Ephesians 5:9)
The fruit of the [consistently] righteous is a tree of life, And he who is wise captures and wins souls [for God; he gathers them for eternity]. (Proverbs 11:30)
Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked [following their advice and example], Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit [down to rest] in the seat of scoffers (ridiculers).
But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And on His law [His precepts and teachings] he [habitually] meditates day and night.
And he will be like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season; Its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers [and comes to maturity].(Psalm 1:1-3)
