In this manner you shall say to them, “The gods that did not make the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth and from under the heavens.”
God made the earth by His power;
He established the world by His wisdom
And by His understanding and skill He has stretched out the heavens.
When He utters His voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens,
And He causes the clouds and the mist to ascend from the end of the earth;
He makes lightning for the rain,
And brings out the wind from His treasuries and from His storehouses.
Every man has become [like a brute] irrational and stupid, without knowledge [of God];
Every goldsmith is shamed by his carved idols;
For his molten images are frauds and lies, And there is no breath in them.
They are worthless and devoid of promise, a work of delusion and mockery;
In their time of [trial and] punishment they will perish [without hope].
The Portion of Jacob [the true God on whom Israel has a claim] is not like these;
For He is the Designer and Maker of all things,
And Israel is the tribe of His inheritance [and He will not fail them]--
The LORD of hosts is His name. ( Jeremiah 10:11-16) For the LORD, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts says this,
I am the First and I am the Last;
And there is no God besides Me. ( Isaiah 44:6) There is only one true God, and that all other deities or idols are false. You shall have no other gods before Me.
You shall not make for yourself any idol, or any likeness (form, manifestation) of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth [as an object to worship]. You shall not worship them nor serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous (impassioned) God demanding what is rightfully and uniquely mine], visiting (avenging) the iniquity (sin, guilt) of the fathers on the children [that is, calling the children to account for the sins of their fathers], to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing graciousness and steadfast lovingkindness to thousands [of generations] of those who love Me and keep My commandments.
You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain [that is, irreverently, in false affirmations or in ways that impugn the character of God]; for the LORD will not hold guiltless nor leave unpunished the one who takes His name in vain [disregarding its reverence and its power].(Exodus 20:3-7) Commandments of God regarding His reverence and power! THE PRESENCE OF GOD NOT PRIZED! THE GREATNESS OF GOD NOT ADMIRED! THE GOODNESS OF GOD NOT SAVORED! THE FAITHFULNESS OF GOD NOT TRUSTED! THE POWER OF GOD NOT PRAISED! THE GLORY OF GOD NOT HONORED! THE WISDOM OF GOD NOT ESTEEMED! THE TRUTH OF GOD NOT SOUGHT! THE HOLINESS OF GOD NOT REVERENCED! THE GRACE OF NOT CHERISHED! THE JUSTICE OF GOD NOT RESPECTED! THE WRATH OF GOD NOT FEARED! THE BEAUTY OF GOD NOT TREASURED! THE PERSON OF GOD NOT LOVED! THESE ARE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD NOT OBEYED! In this fallen state, no one can achieve God's perfect standard of righteousness on their own. All are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Jesus Christ. While all have sinned, God offers justification (being declared righteous) through His grace, received through faith in Him. It is written and forever remains written,
THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS [none that meets God’s standard], NOT EVEN ONE.
THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS,
THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD. But now the righteousness of God has been clearly revealed [independently and completely] apart from the Law, though it is [actually] confirmed by the Law and the [words and writings of the] Prophets. This righteousness of God comes through faith in Jesus Christ for all those [Jew or Gentile] who believe [and trust in Him and acknowledge Him as God’s Son]. There is no distinction, since all have sinned and continually fall short of the glory of God, and are being justified [declared free of the guilt of sin, made acceptable to God, and granted eternal life] as a gift by His [precious, undeserved] grace, through the redemption [the payment for our sin] which is [provided] in Christ Jesus, whom God displayed publicly [before the eyes of the world] as a [life-giving] sacrifice of atonement and reconciliation (propitiation) by His blood [to be received] through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness [which demands punishment for sin], because in His forbearance [His deliberate restraint] He passed over the sins previously committed [before Jesus’ crucifixion]. It was to demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the One who justifies those who have faith in Jesus [and rely confidently on Him as Savior].
(Romans 3:10-11,21-26)
