By this the children of God and the children of the devil are clearly identified: anyone who does not practice righteousness [who does not seek God’s will in thought, action, and purpose] is not of God, nor is the one who does not [unselfishly] love his [believing] brother. (1 John 3:10)
Therefore become imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father]. (Ephesians 5:1)
Whoever says he lives in Christ [that is, whoever says he has accepted Him as God and Savior] ought [as a moral obligation] to walk and conduct himself just as He walked and conducted Himself. (1 John 2:6)
If you know that He is absolutely righteous, you know [for certain] that everyone who practices righteousness [doing what is right and conforming to God’s will] has been born of Him. (1 John 2:29)
No one who is born of God [deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] practices sin, because God’s seed [His principle of life, the essence of His righteous character] remains [permanently] in him [who is born again—who is reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose]; and he [who is born again] cannot habitually [live a life characterized by] sin, because he is born of God and longs to please Him. (1 John 3:8) For all who are allowing themselves to be led by the Spirit of God are sons and daughters of God.
The Spirit Himself testifies and confirms together with our spirit [assuring us] that we [believers] are children of God. (Romans 8:14,16) The one who habitually keeps His commandments [obeying His word and following His precepts, abides and] remains in Him, and He in him. By this we know and have the proof that He [really] abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. (1 John 3:24) By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given to us His [Holy] Spirit. (1 John 4:13) Therefore, whoever rejects this instruction is not rejecting human authority but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit. (1 Thessalonians 4:8) And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [but seek to please Him], by whom you were sealed and marked [branded as God’s own] for the day of redemption [the final deliverance from the consequences of sin]. (Ephesians 4:30) How often they rebelled against Him in the wilderness And grieved Him in the desert. (Psalm 78:40)
Then the LORD said to Moses, How long do you [people] refuse to keep My commandments and My instructions? (Exodus 16:28)
But they rebelled And grieved His Holy Spirit; Therefore He changed into their enemy, And He fought against them. (Isaiah 63:3) We can know that we are continuing in union with Him and that He is continuing in union with us, by the fact that He has given us a portion of His Spirit.
And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has bestowed on those who obey Him. (Acts 5:32) For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction. (Romans 15:4)
Now these things happened to them as an example and warning [to us]; they were written for our instruction, this was written in the Scriptures to teach us who live in these last days. (1 Corinthians 10:11)
