For everyone born of God is victorious and overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has conquered and overcome the world—our [continuing, persistent] faith [in Jesus the Son of God. (1John 5:4) Our faith can guard us during trials in the same way a shield would during battle. Through obedience and trust making the righteous spiritually prosperous. For You, O LORD, bless the righteous man [the one who is in right standing with You]; You surround him with favor as with a shield. (Psalm 5:12) While truth, salvation, faith, and righteousness are also depicted as essential pieces of armor, the Word of God is depicted as the offensive weapon used in spiritual warfare against the devil, demons, and their schemes. Ephesians 6 is the shield of faith. He tells us to take up the shield of faith in order to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. For a Roman soldier, a shield was used as a form of protection. Above all, lift up the [protective] shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. (Ephesians 6:16-17) The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. God's Word is truth and the truth of God is sharper than any two-edged sword.

For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12) The grass withers, the flower fades,

But the word of our God stands forever. (Isaiah 40:8)
