Your word is a lamp to guide me and a light for my path. (Psalm 119:105) God's word is a lamp that shows us how to live and walk; like a spiritual compass. His word illuminates the path for us. Living without the word of God is like living life without directions.

The unfolding of Your [glorious] words give light; Their unfolding gives understanding to the simple. (Psalm 119:130) The Holy Spirit leads and guides us into all truth. It is the Spirit of God who enables us to understand the word of God. God's word purifies our consciences, renews our minds, illuminates our spirits, and drives away darkness. Allow God's word entrance into your heart. His word will speak to you and show you how you ought to live. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life. (John 8:12) The light that Jesus gives awakens eternal life. Those who drink the water that I will give them will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give them will become in them a spring which will provide them with life-giving water and give them eternal life. (John 4:14) Living water is the word of God, the spiritual sustenance and salvation that Christ offers to us. He who has the Son [by accepting Him as Lord and Savior] has the life [that is eternal]; he who does not have the Son of God [by personal faith] does not have the life. (1John 5:12) Our eternal future depends on whether we have Jesus as our Savior and Lord.
