Those who sincerely desire to be taught their duty, Christ will guide in judgment, and teach his way. He tells the scribe that the great commandment, which indeed includes all, is, that of loving God with all our hearts. Wherever this is the ruling principle in the soul, there is a disposition to every other duty. Loving God with all our heart, will engage us to every thing by which he will be pleased.
Guide me in the path of thy commandments; for I have delighted in it. (Psalm 119:35) To find our enjoyment, to bend toward or incline toward, a very fitting description of what our attitude should be toward our Almighty God. As you seek God with all your heart and delight in Him in His presence, then He promises to fill your heart's desires because you will want what He wants. Your desires will match up with God's. For those who make him the object of their desire, he will fulfill that desire. Trust in the Lord, delighting themselves in the Lord, committing their way to the Lord, and waiting patiently for the Lord. To rest trustfully in God that is what it means to wait on God, to wait for God.
For from days of old no one has heard, nor has ear perceived, Nor has the eye seen a God besides You, Who works and acts in behalf of the one who [gladly] waits for Him. ( Isaiah 64:4) He explains that the prosperity of the wicked lasts only a short time, whereas the Lord's blessing of the righteous lasts forever.
Delight yourself in the LORD, And He will give you the desires and petitions of your heat. (Psalm 37:4) The wicked exerting their authority against the righteous, God would not let this happen. God was all round (or always near) his people. God will protect, keep and care for those who trust in Him. Those who trust in the Lord as well as an encouragement to persevere. He surrounds His people. No matter what you're surrounded by the peace, protection, provision, presence and promises. The safety and security of the people of God; the deliverance of them from the oppressions of their enemies; the blessings of goodness that should be bestowed upon them, and the vengeance that will be taken on the wicked. “For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous." Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people from this time forth and forever. (Psalm 125:1-3) The fear of man — Inordinate fear of harm or suffering from men, which is properly opposed to trust in God, because it arises from a distrust of God’s promises and providence; bringeth a snare — but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord — walks in God’s ways, and securely relies upon him, to protect him from the designs and malice of wicked men; shall be safe — shall be preserved from all real evil, through God’s watchful providence over him. (Proverbs 29:25)
