So faith comes from hearing the message, and the message that is heard is what Christ spoke. (Romans 10:17) The relationship between faith and works. Faith is trusting in God based on evidence but without total proof. Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. People with faith produce good works. So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ. Before you trust, you have to listen. May we live by faith and carry out good works by faith so that we demonstrate a living faith to the glory of God.
The believer who works the work of God in His power and strength, has a living faith. Lack of works proves lack of faith. Faith which saves will produce good works.
So too, faith, if it does not have works [to back it up], is by itself dead [inoperative and ineffective. (James 2:17) Encourage other believers to stand firm in the faith. Giving of ourselves to the work given by the Lord of serving and building. Being fruitful, and walking in the purpose of God for our life's. Our feet are planted on a foundation that can hold us. When we build on a firm foundation of Christ, we can withstand whatever comes our way. A foundation based on God produces steadfast faith and life.
So, then, brothers and sisters, don't let anyone move you off the foundation [of your faith]. Always excel in the work you do for the Lord. You know that the hard work you do for the Lord is not pointless. (1Corinthians 15:58) “In the last days there will be scoffers, following after their own ungodly passions.” These are the ones who are [agitators] causing divisions--worldly-minded [secular, unspiritual, carnal, merely sensual--unsaved], devoid of the Spirit. But you, beloved, build yourselves up on [the foundation of] your most holy faith [continually progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], pray in the Holy Spirit, and keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously and looking forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ [which will bring you] to eternal life. And have mercy on some, who are doubting. (Jude 1:18-22)
