But I say to you, love [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for] your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. (Matthew 5:44) This is sound doctrine teachings, on guidance of Christian living, emphasizing the importance of transformed lives as a result of the believers' faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus commands His disciples to agape (love) your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. Instead of wishing enemies harm and judgment, we are to intercede on their behalf to God, that He will show them mercy. Never repay anyone evil for evil. Take thought for what is right and gracious and proper in the sight of everyone. If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave the way open for God’s wrath [and His judicial righteousness]; for it is written [in Scripture], “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,” says the Lord. “BUT IF YOUR ENEMY IS HUNGRY, FEED HIM; IF HE IS THIRSTY, GIVE HIM A DRINK; FOR BY DOING THIS YOU WILL HEAP BURNING COALS ON HIS HEAD.” Do not be overcome and conquered by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:17-21). Returning an evil deed with a good deed puts a sort of heat on our enemy's head.

Like Jesus went around doing good, God has prepared good things for you to do, setting it all up ahead of time so all you have to do is follow His lead. And do not be conformed to this world with its superficial values and customs, but be transformed and progressively changed and mature spiritually by the renewing of your mind focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes of character so that you may prove for yourselves what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect in His plan and purpose for you. (Romans 12:2)

Constantly rejoicing in hope [because of our confidence in Christ], steadfast and patient in distress, devoted to prayer continually seeking wisdom, guidance, and strength. (Romans 12:12) Consistent endurance of character brings sustaining strength to our lives. This proven character and spiritual maturity brings God's approval. Our character of strength spiritually involves our capacity to dig deep and find the greater meaning in life, to align ourselves with a purpose that extends beyond ourselves, to find relationship and unity with something greater. But Jesus beheld their thoughts, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but if they will forsake all things for my sake, with God whatsoever things I speak are possible. (Matthew 19:26) Through Jesus, God made the impossible possible. God wants to do the impossible in our lives, but we have to trust Him and believe that what He says is true. Today decide to trust in Jesus and know that if He promised it, it's possible in our lives.
