By Jesus' loving and caring ways, by His power to meet every human need, and by His teaching the word of God, His disciples came to know the Father and the Son. Testify that to receive eternal life, we must be willing to put away the things of the world and serve the Lord with all our heart, might, mind, and strength.
Now this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true [supreme and sovereign] God, and [in the same manner know] Jesus [as the] Christ whom You have sent.
Eternal life can never be purchased in any way, it is entirely a free gift. The cost of this gift is the death of the Savior, Jesus Christ. The gift of eternal life is available to anyone who, after recognizing his own sinfulness, places his or her personal faith in Jesus Christ as the only Savior.
John writes: “We also know that the Son of God has come and given us understanding so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true — even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal Life” 1 John 5:20
And we [have seen and] know [by personal experience] that the Son of God has [actually] come [to this world], and has given us understanding and insight so that we may [progressively and personally] know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true—in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
Knowing God aligns us with our true self, and gives us our true life, which is eternal. This is also known as living in the kingdom of God as one of its citizens. This is being of the light in the Church; being one who is saved. So much changes when we truly know God.
The Bible clearly teaches that the moment a person turns from his sin and trusts in Jesus to be forgiven of his sin, he is saved. He has passed from spiritual death to spiritual life and has been declared not guilty in God's court of law.
Romans 10:9-10
That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
This life does not end after death, we will all be resurrected. If we love God, believe in Him, and follow the gospel of Jesus Christ, God promises that we can return to live with Him after we die. The basis of salvation is grace.
The instrument of salvation is faith.
The result of salvation is good works.
The confidence of salvation is that what God started, he will finish. Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart [with remorse and anxiety], and they said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what are we to do?” And Peter said to them, “Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah] and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ because of the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise [of the Holy Spirit] is for you and your children and for all who are far away [including the Gentiles], as many as the Lord our God calls to Himself.” And Peter solemnly testified and continued to admonish and urge them with many more words, saying, “Be saved from this crooked and unjust generation!” So then, those who accepted his message were baptized; and on that day about 3,000 souls were added [to the body of believers]. They were continually and faithfully devoting themselves to the instruction of the apostles, and to fellowship, to eating meals together and to prayers. Steps to Salvation 1)Faith, 2)Repentance, 3)Water Baptism, 4)Spirit Infilling 5)Continance to the teachings of Jesus and his apostles.
