Let your gentle spirit [your graciousness, unselfishness, mercy, tolerance, and patience] be known to all people. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours].

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of instruction. And of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].

I have instructed you in the way of [skillful and godly] wisdom; I have led you in upright She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him.

But he must ask [for wisdom] in faith, without doubting [God’s willingness to help], for the one who doubts is like a billowing surge of the sea that is blown about and tossed by the wind.

When you walk, your steps will not be impeded [for your path will be clear and open]; And when you run, you will not stumble.

Take hold of instruction; [actively seek it, grip it firmly and] do not let go. Guard her, for she is your life.

And the rain descended and the floods came and the wind blew, and they rushed against the house and it did not fall, for its foundation was laid on solid rock.
