Living in the Spirit

To live by the [Holy] Spirit, we must also walk by the Spirit [with personal integrity, godly character, and moral courage—our conduct empowered by the Holy Spirit]. (Galatians 5:25)Those who are living according to the Spirit, [set their minds on] the things of the Spirit [His will and purpose]. (Romans 8:5)

The spirit of a person was put in them so they could connect with God. Just as part of God's character is Spirit, we have the spirit that endows on us the image of God. Living in the Image of God begins with commitment to God's purpose and living according to that commitment. We build and strengthen our faith by living in the image of God. Then God said, Let Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness, a spiritual personality and moral likeness. (Genesis 1:26) The LORD God formed [that is, created the body of] man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being [an individual complete in body and spirit. (Genesis 2:7) The spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that makes him understand. It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh conveys no benefit [it is of no account]. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life [providing eternal life]. (John 6:63) Now the mind of the flesh is death [both now and forever--because it pursues sin]; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace [the spiritual well-being that comes from walking with God--both now and forever]. However, you are not [living] in the flesh [controlled by the sinful nature] but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God lives in you [directing and guiding you]. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him [and is not a child of God]. If Christ lives in you, though your [natural] body is dead because of sin, your spirit is alive because of righteousness [which He provides] And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you. (Romans 1:6,9-11)
